Yuzu Apple Day One
A sparkling drink with yuzu, apple.

Yuzu brings a fragrant citrus bite that's somewhere between tart lemon and bitter grapefruit, though it has a character of its own. Apple juice gives that sharpness a softer landing. Use plain yuzu juice, not a sweetened cocktail syrup, and begin with the small amount listed. A narrow glass helps keep the citrus aroma close as you sip. It's a lively choice when you want something more distinctive than apple juice without adding a long ingredient list.
Ingredients
- 5 oz Sparkling water
- 1/4 oz Plain yuzu juice
- 2 oz Apple juice
Make it
- Prepare the fruit and herbs as listed. Mash soft fruit to release juice; lightly press herbs or thin ginger slices without shredding them.
- Add the still juices and stir. Strain out seeds, skins or herb pieces if you prefer a smoother texture.
- Pour in the chilled sparkling water slowly and stir once. Serve immediately, with ice if you like.
Benefits
Yuzu · a little vitamin C
With yuzu beside apple juice, this glass offers a little vitamin C for protecting cells from oxidative damage.
Make room for apple juice
Apple juice gives the yuzu a familiar orchard flavor—an aromatic pairing to serve freshly mixed, while the bubbles are lively.
