Toasted Rice Coconut Final Round

A toasted-rice infusion adds a gentle nutty note to a tropical cooler.

Toasted Rice Coconut Final Round

Toasted rice gives this cooler a gentle, nutty aroma that changes the familiar coconut-and-lime combination. It isn't a creamy rice milk; the strained infusion stays light and fairly clear. Keep the toast golden rather than dark brown so the flavor doesn't become burnt. Coconut water rounds the edges, while lime adds a sharper finish. This is a small cooking project for someone who enjoys exploring quieter flavors, with the rice aroma becoming more noticeable as you slow down and sip.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Dry long-grain rice
  • 8 oz Water
  • 3 oz Coconut water, chilled
  • 1/4 oz Lime juice
  • 1 tsp Sugar (optional)

Make it

  1. Toast the dry rice in a small pan over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes until lightly golden, stirring constantly.
  2. Carefully add the water, bring to a simmer and cook, covered, for 20 minutes. Strain out the rice. Stir in optional sugar.
  3. Cool the liquid quickly and refrigerate promptly for about 30 minutes. Add the chilled coconut water and lime juice, then serve immediately.

Benefits

Coconut water · a potassium contribution

Coconut water supplies some potassium for maintaining normal fluid balance; pairing it with rice and lime adds another layer to the flavor.

Let lime bring the interest

The rice and coconut water carries a lively citrus tang from lime; use the listed amounts to enjoy the balance between those flavors, then adjust to your taste.

Preparation includes cooking and straining the rice, not soaking it raw overnight. Cool the infusion promptly and use it the same day.
