Toasted Oat Orange Lamplight
A strained toasted-oat infusion with orange peel.

This cup uses oats for their toasted flavor rather than their thickening power. Straining without pressing too hard keeps the drink light and avoids a gluey texture. Orange peel contributes fragrance with very little sweetness; leave most of the bitter white pith behind. The splash of oat milk rounds the edges after brewing. It is closer to a mellow cereal infusion than porridge, with a warm aroma that makes a simple handful of oats feel surprisingly different.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Rolled oats
- 6 oz Water
- 3 oz Unsweetened oat milk
- 1 strip Washed orange peel, little white pith
Make it
- Toast the oats in a dry saucepan for 2–3 minutes, stirring until fragrant.
- Add the water and orange peel carefully. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
- Strain without pressing the oats too hard. Add the milk and warm through; remove any peel before serving.
Benefits
Oats with a useful milk choice
There’s room for a useful choice beneath the oats: use calcium-fortified oat milk to add a mineral your muscles and nerves need.
