Tangerine Thyme Early Bird

A sparkling drink with tangerine, thyme.

Tangerine Thyme Early Bird

Tangerine juice gives this sparkler a fragrant sweetness with a softer edge than grapefruit. Thyme brings a dry, herbal finish that makes it feel more considered than a glass of soda. Bruise one small sprig, then lift it out once the aroma is noticeable. Leaving a large bunch in the glass can make the drink taste woody. Freshly squeezed juice is especially nice here, although plain bottled tangerine juice works when that's what you have.

Ingredients

  • 5 oz Sparkling water
  • 2 oz Tangerine juice
  • 1 small sprig Fresh thyme

Make it

  1. Prepare the fruit and herbs as listed. Mash soft fruit to release juice; lightly press herbs or thin ginger slices without shredding them.
  2. Add the still juices and stir. Strain out seeds, skins or herb pieces if you prefer a smoother texture.
  3. Pour in the chilled sparkling water slowly and stir once. Serve immediately, with ice if you like.

Benefits

Tangerine ยท a little vitamin C

You get a small vitamin C contribution from tangerine in the thyme mixture, supporting normal immune function alongside a soft, sweet citrus flavor.

A sparkling setting for thyme

Pairing thyme with tangerine puts a gently savory aroma into a fizzy glass, with bubbles making the texture part of the pleasure.
