Tamarind Sun-Up

Tamarind Orange Sparkler. A simple recipe for the start of your day.

Tamarind Sun-Up

Tamarind has a deeper kind of sourness than lemon, with a fruity, almost earthy character. Orange brings some familiar sweetness to that tang, and sparkling water makes the concentrate easier to sip. Mix the tamarind thoroughly before adding bubbles so there are no concentrated pockets at the bottom. Start with the recipe amount; concentrates differ, and this is more enjoyable when the sourness invites another sip rather than stopping you.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz Sparkling water
  • 1 tsp Unsweetened tamarind concentrate
  • 2 oz Orange juice

Make it

  1. Add the fruit and herbs to a glass. Gently press soft fruit or herbs to release their flavor.
  2. Stir in the juice, any optional salt or sweetener, and the water. If using sparkling water, add it last and stir once.
  3. Add ice if you like. Let infused water stand for 5 minutes for a fuller flavor.

Benefits

Orange ยท a little vitamin C

You get a small vitamin C contribution from orange in the tamarind mixture, supporting normal immune function alongside a familiar sweet-tart citrus flavor.

A sparkling setting for tamarind

Pairing tamarind with orange puts a deep sweet-sour tang into a fizzy glass, with bubbles making the texture part of the pleasure.
