Pomegranate First Light

Pomegranate Lime Fizz. A simple recipe for the start of your day.

Pomegranate First Light

Pomegranate has a tart, almost drying finish that makes it feel different from most breakfast juices. Lime sharpens it, while bubbles give the deep red juice a lighter texture. There’s no rich or creamy ingredient here to hide behind, so the juice you choose matters. If it’s particularly concentrated, adjust with sparkling water first. You’re looking for a lively pomegranate drink, not a contest in how sour a glass can get.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz Sparkling water
  • 2 oz Pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 oz Lime juice

Make it

  1. Add the fruit and herbs to a glass. Gently press soft fruit or herbs to release their flavor.
  2. Stir in the juice, any optional salt or sweetener, and the water. If using sparkling water, add it last and stir once.
  3. Add ice if you like. Let infused water stand for 5 minutes for a fuller flavor.

Benefits

Lime · a little vitamin C

Using lime with pomegranate brings vitamin C for absorbing iron from plant foods, along with a lively citrus tang.

Pomegranate · more than a sweet mixer

With lime in the glass, the measured pomegranate contributes a tart, slightly drying finish as an accent to the fizz.
