Poached Pear Anise Window
A clear pear infusion with a brief star-anise steep.

Pear gives this infusion a gentle sweetness, while star anise adds a clear licorice aroma. A short steep is important because the spice can easily overwhelm delicate fruit. Lemon peel brightens the smell without making the drink sour. Remove the whole spice and peel before serving, then decide whether you want a clear cup or a few soft pear slices. This is a lighter evening option with an unusually aromatic finish and very little preparation to manage.
Ingredients
- 8 oz Water
- 1/2 fruit Ripe pear, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/2 pod Food-grade Chinese star anise
- 1 strip Washed lemon peel, little white pith
Make it
- Simmer the pear and water for 8 minutes.
- Add the star anise and lemon peel, simmer for 2 more minutes, then remove both.
- Strain for a clear infusion, or keep a few pear slices in the cup.
