Honeydew Lime Breakfast Breeze
A chilled drink with honeydew, lime, basil.

Honeydew's mild sweetness benefits from a little lime and a few basil leaves. The basil adds a soft peppery aroma without making this taste like a savory drink. Choose a fragrant melon and mash a small portion to help the flavor reach the water. Let the glass stand briefly before adding ice. It's a subtle combination, best for someone who likes lightly infused water rather than a drink that tastes strongly of fruit juice.
Ingredients
- 5 oz Cold water
- 1/2 cup Ripe honeydew cubes
- 1/4 oz Lime juice
- 2 leaf Basil leaves
Make it
- Prepare the fruit and herbs as listed. Mash soft fruit to release juice; lightly press herbs or thin ginger slices without shredding them.
- Add the still juices and stir. Strain out seeds, skins or herb pieces if you prefer a smoother texture.
- Stir in the cold water. Let fresh fruit, herbs or ginger infuse for 5 minutes, then remove the ginger or herb sprigs when the flavor suits you. Serve chilled.
Benefits
Lime · a little vitamin C
Lime contributes a little vitamin C for collagen formation for healthy skin; honeydew brings a delicate melon sweetness in this recipe.
Honeydew · a flavor worth noticing
Using honeydew beside lime and basil gives the glass a delicate melon sweetness, creating its own flavor without needing carbonation or an alcoholic pour.
