Cumin Mint Different Kind of Round

A savory, tangy mint-and-cumin drink inspired by North Indian jaljeera.

Cumin Mint Different Kind of Round

This is a savory drink with real personality: roasted cumin, fresh mint, fennel, and tamarind all show up in a fairly small glass. Lemon adds a sharper finish, while the tiny amount of black salt is optional. Strain well so the spices don't make the texture gritty. It won't taste like lemonade, and that's the appeal. This is a good choice for someone who wants to explore a tangy, spice-led drink rather than another sweet fruit mocktail.

Ingredients

  • 8 leaf Mint leaves
  • 1/8 tsp Ground roasted cumin
  • 1/8 tsp Fennel seeds, lightly crushed
  • 1/2 tsp Unsweetened tamarind concentrate
  • 8 oz Cold water
  • 1/8 oz Lemon juice
  • 0 tsp Food-grade black salt (kala namak) (optional)

Make it

  1. Grind or blend the mint, cumin, fennel, tamarind and 2 tablespoons of the measured water into a fine paste.
  2. Stir in the remaining water, lemon juice and optional black salt.
  3. Strain through a fine sieve, chill if needed and serve. Start with less concentrate if your tamarind is especially strong.

Benefits

Mint and cumin · refreshing fluids

A mint, cumin, and fennel seeds glass starts with 8 oz of water here, contributing fluid while mint adds a fresh, cooling aroma.

Cumin · a flavor worth noticing

Using cumin beside mint, fennel seeds, and tamarind gives the glass a toasted, savory edge, creating its own flavor without needing carbonation or an alcoholic pour.
