Cumin Mint Breakfast Chaas
A simple savory yogurt drink inspired by Indian chaas.

Roasted cumin gives plain yogurt a warm, earthy flavor, while mint adds a fresh finish. Diluting and whisking the yogurt makes it much lighter than lassi or a thick smoothie. The spices may settle a little, so give the glass another stir as you drink. This is a savory breakfast option with no fruit or syrup involved. A modest pinch of salt brings the flavors together, but you can leave it out and still enjoy the contrast.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Plain unsweetened yogurt
- 5 oz Cold water
- 1/8 tsp Ground roasted cumin
- 4 leaf Mint leaves, finely chopped
- 0 tsp Fine salt (optional)
Make it
- Whisk the yogurt with the water until smooth.
- Add the cumin, chopped mint and optional salt, then whisk again until lightly frothy.
- Serve cold and stir if the spices settle.
