Corn Cinnamon Evening Spoon
A quick hominy and cinnamon milk inspired by morocho.

Hominy gives this cup a rounded corn flavor and a little chew, while raisins add occasional pockets of sweetness. Blending only part of the corn keeps the texture interesting without turning the drink into a solid pudding. Stir as it warms because the milk can catch on the pan. This quick version takes inspiration from morocho but uses ready-cooked hominy instead of the traditional long preparation. A spoon belongs beside the cup for the last few pieces.
Ingredients
- 8 oz Unsweetened oat milk
- 1/4 cup Plain canned cooked hominy, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 stick Cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp Raisins
- 1 tsp Brown sugar
Make it
- Blend half the hominy with the cold milk until mostly smooth.
- Put the mixture, remaining hominy, cinnamon, raisins and sugar in a small saucepan. Simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring often.
- Remove the cinnamon and serve warm with a spoon. Add a little water if too thick.
Benefits
Hominy with a useful milk choice
The hominy supplies a mellow corn flavor and body; a calcium-fortified oat milk can bring something useful of its own for bones and teeth.
Raisins beside oat milk, hominy, and cinnamon
Using 1 tsp of raisins adds a caramel-like dried-fruit sweetness to the warm oat milk, hominy, and cinnamon, bringing aroma as well as taste to this combination.
