Carrot Clementine Commute

A chilled drink with carrot, clementine, ginger.

Carrot Clementine Commute

Carrot and clementine make a sunny-looking glass with a mellow sweetness and just enough citrus acidity. The ginger should show up as warmth at the end, rather than making every sip fiery. Use plain carrot juice and strain out any larger pieces of ginger after a short rest. It tastes fuller than flavored water but lighter than a smoothie. If your carrot juice is particularly earthy, an extra squeeze of clementine can bring the balance back.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Cold water
  • 2 oz Carrot juice
  • 2 oz Clementine juice
  • 2 slice Fresh ginger, thinly sliced

Make it

  1. Prepare the fruit and herbs as listed. Mash soft fruit to release juice; lightly press herbs or thin ginger slices without shredding them.
  2. Add the still juices and stir. Strain out seeds, skins or herb pieces if you prefer a smoother texture.
  3. Stir in the cold water. Let fresh fruit, herbs or ginger infuse for 5 minutes, then remove the ginger or herb sprigs when the flavor suits you. Serve chilled.

Benefits

Carrot ยท color with a purpose

Carrot supplies some provitamin A carotenoids for maintaining normal vision and immune function; pairing it with clementine and ginger adds another layer to the flavor.

Let ginger bring the interest

The carrot and clementine carries a peppery warmth from ginger; use the listed amounts to enjoy the balance between those flavors, then adjust to your taste.
