Cantaloupe Kitchen Light

A chilled drink with cantaloupe, lime, mint.

Cantaloupe Kitchen Light

Cantaloupe gives this glass a soft melon sweetness, with a little lime to stop it tasting like plain fruit water. The mint works best as a faint, cool finish rather than a mouthful of leaves. Use a properly ripe melon; an underripe one won't contribute much. Press a few cubes against the glass, leave the rest intact, and let everything sit for a short while. It's especially appealing alongside something salty at breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 5 oz Cold water
  • 1/2 cup Ripe cantaloupe cubes
  • 1/4 oz Lime juice
  • 4 leaf Mint leaves

Make it

  1. Prepare the fruit and herbs as listed. Mash soft fruit to release juice; lightly press herbs or thin ginger slices without shredding them.
  2. Add the still juices and stir. Strain out seeds, skins or herb pieces if you prefer a smoother texture.
  3. Stir in the cold water. Let fresh fruit, herbs or ginger infuse for 5 minutes, then remove the ginger or herb sprigs when the flavor suits you. Serve chilled.

Benefits

Cantaloupe · a little vitamin C

Cantaloupe brings some vitamin C to the mix—a nutrient involved in collagen formation for healthy skin, alongside a lively citrus tang from lime.

Lime · a flavor worth noticing

Using lime beside cantaloupe and mint gives the glass a lively citrus tang, creating its own flavor without needing carbonation or an alcoholic pour.
