Black Tea Pomegranate Early Shift
A chilled drink with pomegranate, pear.

Pomegranate and black tea both have a slightly dry, tannic character, so ripe pear is useful for softening the combination. Press the pear slices well and keep the tea brew moderate. A very strong brew can make this taste harsher than intended. The pomegranate gives a deep ruby color and a clear tart note, while pear rounds the finish. It's a fuller-flavored iced tea for someone who enjoys a drier drink, and it does contain caffeine.
Ingredients
- 1 tea bag Black tea
- 6 oz Water
- 2 oz Pomegranate juice
- 1/2 fruit Ripe pear, cored and sliced
Make it
- Brew the tea in the measured water, using the temperature and steeping time on its packet. Remove the tea bag.
- Cool the tea in a heatproof container, then chill for about 30 minutes.
- Mash any soft fruit in a separate glass. Lightly bruise herbs or ginger; add these and the listed juices or spices to the cooled tea.
- Stir well and taste. Remove ginger or herb sprigs when their flavor suits you. Strain if you prefer a smoother drink, then serve chilled.
