Black Sesame Date Daybreak

A gray, nutty breakfast cup with sweetness from a single date.

Black Sesame Date Daybreak

Black sesame brings a deep, toasted flavor and a striking gray color to this otherwise simple milk drink. A soft date adds sweetness without covering the sesame's slight bitterness. Blend thoroughly so no chewy date pieces remain, and stir the sesame paste before measuring it. The flavor is closer to toasted seeds than to chocolate, despite the dark appearance. It's a good choice when you want a creamy breakfast drink that feels different from vanilla or fruit.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Unsweetened black sesame paste, stirred
  • 1 fruit Soft pitted date
  • 8 oz Unsweetened oat milk
  • 2 tbsp Water for soaking

Make it

  1. Soak the pitted date in warm water for 10 minutes if firm, then drain.
  2. Blend the date, black sesame paste and oat milk until completely smooth.
  3. Serve chilled, or warm gently in a pan while whisking. Do not let it boil.

Benefits

Black sesame paste with a useful milk choice

A calcium-fortified oat milk adds a bone-and-teeth nutrient to the black sesame paste pairing. Check the carton when choosing your base; fortification varies.

Black sesame paste, dates, and oat milk

The black sesame paste contributes a toasted, slightly bitter nuttiness to dates and oat milk, giving you a specific flavor combination to reach for instead of a default pour.

Contains sesame. Choose unsweetened black sesame paste, not a premade sweet dessert filling.
